Servings: 16

Prep Time: 30 minutes

Cooking Time: 15 minutes

Partner: tossed salad

Making homemade pizza dough saves money on these Easy Calzones. Mix 2 packages yeast with 1 cup warm water. Add 31/2 cups flour, a little salt and 2 tablespoons oil. Knead until springy. Let rise until doubled. Roll; cut with biscuit cutter.

Ingredients

8 oz mild Italian sausage, casings removed

1 (8-count) can large flaky biscuits

1 Tbsp olive oil

1 egg

1/2 tsp Italian seasoning

1/2 tsp garlic salt

32 slices pepperoni

4 slices cooked ham, chopped

4 oz shredded mozzarella cheese

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Cook sausage in a large skillet over medium-high heat, stirring, until browned, about 10 minutes. Drain.

  2. Flatten each biscuit slightly with a rolling pin. Split into halves. Combine oil, egg, seasoning and garlic salt in a small bowl. Brush each biscuit half with oil mixture.

  3. Arrange 2 slices pepperoni, 1 teaspoon sausage, 1 teaspoon ham, and 1 teaspoon mozzarella on 1 side of each biscuit half. Fold biscuit over to enclose filling. Seal edges by pressing with a fork.

  4. Place turnovers on a baking sheet. Bake until golden, about 15 minutes.

Easy Calzone tip: If you are in a hurry, use bottled Italian dressing instead of the oil mixture in step 2.
